First let me say I applaud the inspiration behind the wood pallet house featured in this story. Building homes for refugees and others who need shelter is a worthy endeavor. But, the wood pallet home begs the question: Is a possibly toxic shelter a good solution?
Wood pallets often contain toxic chemicals, insect pests, mold, fungus and other nasty substances. Unfortunately, the absorbency of the wood makes it impossible to get these substances out of a wood pallet once they’re in. The wood pallet shelter idea is one that calls for some further evaluation.
